Hanauta, 花唄, meaning a light, unconscious hum in Japanese, symbolizes quiet joy and the comfort of belonging. The kanji used is a common homonym literally translating to “flower song”. It is a song sung not for performance, but from the heart. As a Freshman Orientation Camp theme, Hanauta represents freshmen gradually finding their rhythm in NUS. Each student arrives with their own tune: soft, uncertain, and shaped by different experiences. Through shared moments and forged friendships, these individual melodies begin to harmonise, forming a collective song. What starts as a gentle hum blooms into something meaningful and enduring. Under the Japanese Studies Society, we welcome students of all faculties who are interested in Japanese culture, be it traditional or contemporary, niche or mainstream. Together, we will embark on an unforgettable journey. “Let the flowers bloom, together with everyone backslash backslash backslash backslash backslash backslash backslash “.
