The event will introduce participants to the distinctive motifs, colors and decorative patterns commonly associated with Peranakan culture through an engaging, hands-on experience. First, participants will be introduced to selected Peranakan patterns and their visual characteristics. They will then create their own Peranakan-inspired designs or recreate existing motifs on paper.
After this, members of the Origami Club will guide participants through folding their decorated paper into origami lanterns. By combining cultural learning, artistic expression and origami, the workshop provides an enjoyable and accessible way for participants to appreciate Peranakan heritage while creating personalized artwork.
The collaboration also aims to combine the strengths of both societies by combining cultural education with paper art, and to encourage interaction, creativity, and cultural appreciation among students.
