TO STRIVE: To attempt great things "for God and country" has been the battle cry of soldiers and the catalyst that drove sailors like Columbus and Magellan to seek new worlds. Striving for excellence in purposeful achievement is not learnt overnight. It requires discipline, grit and a measure of toughness. The experience of exerting oneself against stiff odds in field and forum is worthwhile even if the limits of endurance are stretched to the extent of numbness. It cannot but breed the qualities of patience, endurance and courage.

TO SEEK: The true university spirit encourages the students to develop an "insatiable curiosity". In this age of science and technology, every student and graduate has a duty to contribute to the store of knowledge he receives from past generations. In the Hall, the intermingling of the Fellows and students of the varied discipline should give opportunities for dialogue, discussion and debate on the quest of the 'Why' and 'How'.

TO SERVE: A developing nation needs a core of national builders, dedicated and skilled with a capacity for hard work. Whether the service is scientific research, general practice or the civil service, should not matter; it is the quality of service that counts. Ample opportunities exist in the Hall to develop the sense of community service and individual obligation. "To serve and not to be served" is a challenge calling for utter dedication and selfless service. The response cannot come from without but from within the person.

We are a student chapter of the global Art of Living Foundation, a non-profit, educational, humanitarian organization. Present in 152 countries, it is one of the world’s largest volunteer based NGO’s. At NUS, we have been a student interest group since 2006.
We organize many fun events throughout the semester like Yoga Jam, introductory Meditation seminars, Yogathon, free yoga sessions and our flagship workshop: SKY Happiness, known previously as YES+. We also have weekly follow up for SKY / Happiness program graduates.

Established in 1987, NUS Arts Production Crew (formally known as EMCC Crew) is CFA’s go to student production group. The group obtained its former name from providing production support for CFA’s performance series, ExxonMobil Campus Concerts. Over the years, the group has grown tremendously, lending backstage support to fellow CFA groups as well as other NUS events. NUS Arts Production Crew engages in multiple aspects of the production process, namely marketing, photography and videography, lights, sounds, stage management and production management.

The group aims to provide those with an interest in backstage work chances to develop and enhance their technical and creative skills. It also aims to enrich campus arts experience for all, audience and performers alike.

NUS Arts Production Crew has attained multiple Group of the Year, Tan Ean Kiam Arts Awards in both 2021and 2022. They also received NUS Arts Group of the Year awards of Distinction and Commendation in 2024 and 2025 respectively at the NUS Achievement Awards. NAPC was also awarded Production of the Year (Merit) for their annual production, Bring It Back To Life: Bricolage in 2024 at the NUS Achievement Awards.

NUS Arts Production Crew has been actively involved in the NUS Arts Festival, where the crew support was provided for music concerts, dance performances and theatre productions.

Established in 1994, NUS Ballroom is the Standard Ballroom dance team of the National University of Singapore. The team specializes in the five international Standard Ballroom dances: Slow Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep. Embracing diversity and inclusivity, NUS Ballroom welcomes individuals from all backgrounds to discover and engage with the art of Standard Ballroom dance. We actively support and encourage our dancers’ participation in DanceSport competitions, performances as well as collaborations to build confidence in performance and strengthen their grasp of the dance style. NUS Ballroom stands out on the competition floor as one of the top tertiary standard dance teams.

Founded in 1956, NUS Chinese Society has always been promoting the Chinese Culture within the NUS community and the nation. Each year the six interest groups (Chinese Orchestra, MandoFilms, Chinese Calligraphy, Geyao, Crosstalk and 90° Drama) present excellent productions to the community. The three national competitions organized by us (National Chinese General Knowledge Competition, Singapore Tertiary Chinese Literature Awards, National Youth Calligraphy Competition) have impacted many young local talents. The 60th Management Committee (MC) seeks to serve the NUS Geography community under the motto “Arbor”.

The motto “Arbor” derives from the Latin word for “tree”, symbolising rootedness, growth, and shelter. Just as trees stand firmly rooted while continuing to branch outwards and upwards, the 60th MC aspires to remain grounded in the society’s 60 year legacy, while reaching upwards for new opportunities and growth. “Arbor” embodies the idea of remaining rooted in history, cultivating growth, and creating shelter for our community, both for society members and the Geographical community at large.

The motto “Arbor” represents the three core missions of the 60th, which together embody our role as the “Arbor” of the community.

The first mission: “Rooted in legacy, nourished by the past.”

Like the roots of a tree anchoring it to the earth, the 60th Management Committee begins its journey grounded in the memory and accomplishments of the past 59 committees. Our roots represent the foundations of dedication, commitment, and resilience that the previous members have laid. They remind us to remain connected to our shared history and to draw inspiration and nourishment from the values of those who came before us, ensuring that the society’s growth remains steady and sustainable.

The second mission: “Branching outwards, strengthened together.”

Like branches that weather wind and storm yet continue to grow into the unknown, the 60th MC will inevitably face trials throughout our term. These challenges, however, are not setbacks but opportunities, moments where we go beyond our comfort zones, learn resilience, and discover new strengths within ourselves and with one another. Just as branches of a tree are interconnected, we as the 60th MC will continue to support, uplift, and grow with one another, fostering bonds that will extend across the NUS Geography community. Through these shared experiences, we hope to emerge stronger, more united, and prepared to carry our community forward for another sixty years.

The third mission: “Sheltering growth, fostering community.”

The canopy of a tree offers shade and protection to all beneath it, creating a space for life to thrive. Similarly, the 60th MC aims to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for our members and the wider Geography community. Beyond individual growth, we seek to foster bonds of friendship, unity, and shared purpose. By the end of our term, when this “Arbor” has grown taller and stronger, we hope to have left behind a legacy of shelter and belonging, one that future generations of Geographers can continue to thrive on.

The NUS Literary Society has a long tradition that both supports and extends the work of the Department of English Language and Literature among students in Singapore. Although its core members are university undergraduates, its aim has always been to share the powerful experience of literary culture with a wider audience of young readers and aspiring writers.

Signature events organised annually by the Society include the Evening of Poetry and Music, where poets and musicians are invited to put on performances for an event full of fun. As a special initiative this year, it will incorporate members of the wider Singaporean community by providing opportunities to participate.

Among NUS students, the Literary Society is known for its book clubs, which are held monthly and adhere to genre-guided themes. Members can look forward to meetings such as the previous Alice in Wonderland tea party that was organised alongside a broader discussion on food in literature.

Prominent Singaporean writers who have been part of the Society’s history as advisors, contributors or student leaders include Edwin Thumboo, Arthur Yap, Lee Tzu Pheng, Leong Liew Geok, Boey Kim Cheng, Felix Cheong, Heng Siok Tian, Paul Tan, Aaron Lee, Grace Chia, Cyril Wong, Ovidia Yu and Gwee Li Sui.

The NUS Piano Ensemble (NUSPE) is dedicated to the performance, exploration, and advancement of piano ensemble music, fostering musical excellence, collaboration, and artistic growth within the NUS community and beyond.

Here at NUSPE, members are given the space and time to grow as musicians and performers in a diverse community of music lovers with an affinity for classical piano music. Members participate in weekly Performance Classes, which cover topics ranging from performance practice to music history. Above all, performance is at the heart of what we do, and members enjoy numerous opportunities to present a wide range of repertoires at our concerts held year-round. To prepare for these concerts, performers participate in sessions held by our Key Tutor, Dr Choi Hye-Seon, with the assistance of our Student Music Directors (SMDs). Aside from classical piano music, we also experiment with diverse musical styles and art forms, even performing with other instruments.

The NUS Students' Political Association (NUSPA) seeks to cultivate political awareness through quality events, encourage the active discussion of current affairs, and provide the NUS student body with a platform for intellectual engagement. We aim to be the leading student organisation for political engagement. NUSPA is a non-partisan student organisation established in 1976 that seeks to cultivate political awareness in the NUS student body. It holds a unique position as one of the only student-based platforms that allow for political expression and engagement. Our events engage undergraduates in discussions and competitions with prominent personalities from the political, corporate and civil scene, where we hope to encourage vibrant socio-political discourse. These include the Kent Ridge Ministerial Forum, ASEAN Forum, Top Guns Forum, Chancellor’s Challenge Shield and the Debate Series. In addition to these, we implement additional projects yearly in order to provide students with a greater range of options to meet their interests. We also have a publication, The Convergence, which features a range of intellectual and opinion articles by students and leading political commentators.

NUS Table Tennis welcomes all students, regardless of experience or skill level. Our mission is to promote the sport within the NUS community, whether for recreation or sports excellence, and to provide the best student life experience both on and off the court. We strive to foster a supportive, inclusive, and energetic environment where everyone can enjoy the game and grow together.

Membership Benefits
Members can participate in a wide range of activities tailored to different interests and commitment levels. Our competitive men’s and women’s teams train twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays, 7 to 10pm at MPSH2, and compete in major university tournaments such as the Singapore University Games (SUniG) in Semester 1 and the Institute Varsity Polytechnic (IVP) Games in Semester 2.
Beyond competition, we also offer recreational sessions throughout the semester for those who wish to learn, play casually, or simply enjoy the sport in a friendly setting, regardless of background or experience. Students can join the NUS Recreational Table Tennis Telegram chat for updates.

NUS Ultimate Frisbee is committed to bringing you the best experience of the sport of Ultimate, regardless of your experience or skills. We aim to promote the sport of Ultimate Frisbee to the larger NUS community through both our competitive and recreational arm.

Our competitive teams participate in two main competitions each academic year – the Singapore University Games (SUniG) in Semester 1 and Institute Varsity Polytechnic (IVP) Games in Semester 2. Our team aims to improve our results at both the SUNIG and IVP Games. We look for players with the right attitude – the ones who are willing to put in the hard work and effort to continuously improve & strive for excellence.

We also strongly believe in giving back to the community and sharing the joys of Ultimate Frisbee with the NUS community. Besides our competitive teams, NUS Ultimate also has a recreational arm catered for anyone with an interest in the sport, regardless of your experience or background.
